What to expect when you hire a Coach.

The profession of being a Life Coach is not a new one, but it is still relatively misunderstood. Throw the word "Youth" in front of it, and the confusion is compounded.

I was once asked what church I work out of. Answer: I don't. I am not a Youth Pastor.

It was stated that I must give a lot of advice. Answer: Coaches don't provide "advice" - we provide structure and compassion that allows our client's to make the best decisions for themselves. In general, advice is not always the best idea. How I choose to live my life may not be how my clients choose to live theirs. By suggesting what works for me, minimizes their own autonomy.

This person also suggested that because my clients are young adults that they must need more advice - simply because they are young.

I heartily argue just the opposite. Young people are incredibly smart and tapped into what is going on in the world (maybe even a little too much!). By providing a safe, nonjudgemental space for them to explore their thoughts, ideas, feelings, dreams, and goals, they are able to strengthen the emotional and mental muscles that will take them well into adulthood.

So, what should a client expect when working with a Coach?

You can expect to feel like you are truly being listened to and heard fully without judgement. You will be asked thoughtful questions that will challenge how you view your hurdles in life. You may be exposed to new ideas on how to look at your thoughts and emotions to improve your daily experience. You will feel empowered in knowing (and believing) that you are more than capable of reaching your goals: personal and/or professional.

When you choose to work with me, you can specifically expect to meet with me for about an hour for our first meeting just to get to know each other. To determine if we will work together well. Not all coaches are equal, we are all individuals with different styles and personalities. To gain the most from your coach, it should be a good fit for YOU!

If you are ready to take that next step, contact me to book your first free session.
